Workhorse Reed tops weekly honorees in SW Virginia

Luke Reed was a workhorse for the Gate City football team last Friday night, and the sophomore’s relentlessness helped earn him top Times News/Johnson City honors for Southwest Virginia.


Luke Reed, Gate City

Sophomore, RB

Reed carried the ball 30 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Devils’ 23-20 Mountain 7 District win over Lee High.


Esau Teasley, J.I. Burton

Freshman, RB

Teasley rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries in the Raiders' 44-31 win over Grundy.


Levi Rhoton, Gate City

Junior, WR/DB/PK

With one second remaining in the game against the Generals, Rhoton booted through the game-winning field goal from 20 yards out to clinch the win.


Bailey Turner, Union

Senior, QB

Turner completed 11 of 15 passes for 104 yards and touchdowns to help the Bears on their way to a 38-13 win over Wise Central.


Trenton Adkins, Ridgeview

Sophomore, RB

Adkins ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the Wolfpack’s 24-7 win over John Battle.
